Lendva Community
Lendva Community is in the easternmost part of Slovenia, only
a few kilometres away the Hungarian and Croatian border. It has a population of
Slovenians, Hungarians, and other ethnic groups. The area has two official
languages: Slovenian and Hungarian.
The community consists of 18 settlements, its centre is Lendva with its rich
cultural and economic tradition. Lendva has been the twin-settlement of Lenti
since 2004.
Lendva’s castle was built in the 12th century. It had its golden age when it was
owned by the Bánffys: it was a home of significant cultural and political
activity. There is an art gallery and a museum in the castle nowadays. Lendva
became a town in 1867, and also the seat of the district.
The Community’s geographical location plays a very important role in its
economic development – it is located near the shared border of Slovenia, Hungary
and Croatia, which facilitates international cooperation. Several cross-border
integrated tourism and economic developments have been realised in the latest
years.
